Lot 4042 S. NORTH CONTRACT HALL BREECHLOADING U.S. MARKED
FLINTLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 52. NSN. Bbl 32 1/2" rnd with rifling that stops 1 1/2" before muzzle. Offset fixed front and rear sights. Breech block pivots up for loading. Block is marked "U.S. / S. NORTH / MIDL / CONN / 1831". 3 band fastened walnut stock with iron buttplate, trigger guard, swivels and button tipped iron ramrod. Left stock ear is stamped "V" over illegible inspector's stamp. Estimated total of 5,700 were produced from 1830-1836. CONDITION: metal has faded to brown showing scattered light pitting and handling marks. Wood has added finish over wear and age darkening with numerous scratches, marks and small dents. Wrist of stock has small chips behind the action. Sound lock. Dark pitted bore.
